Her mind was corrupted by a failed experiment of The Master Mage who found a way to wield Basitins with magic. However, when Basitins repeatedly use magic, they get "soft in the head." Because of this she cannot speak properly, though previously she was considered skilled in magic. Eric remembered her from one of the templar strongholds and this helped him to realize what was happening to the Basitins-the Templars were trying to lobotomize them to make them easier to conquer.
